How to cancel Babbel

On the web

1. Sign in at babbel.com in a browser and click your name (top right), then Profile and settings.
2. Open Account information and scroll down to Deactivate automatic renewal (Automatische Abo-Verlängerung deaktivieren).
3. Confirm. Babbel emails a confirmation straight away; keep it.
4. The subscription now runs to the end of the term you paid for and does not renew.

If you subscribed in the iOS or Android app

1. Apple: Settings › your name › Subscriptions › Babbel › Cancel Subscription.
2. Google Play: profile › Payments & subscriptions › Subscriptions › Babbel. Babbel cannot end a store subscription for you.

Notice period

Cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current term, on any plan from 3 months to 12 months; otherwise it renews for the same length.

Refunds

20-day money-back guarantee on a new subscription, on request to Babbel support. After that, no refund; the plan runs to the end of the prepaid term.

Worth knowing

• Every plan is paid for the whole term up front and renews for the same term. A 12-month plan that renews is another year, charged at once.
• The cheap monthly figure on the pricing page is the 12-month plan divided by twelve. Read the total.
• Babbel Lifetime is a one-off purchase and has nothing to cancel.
• Deleting the app does not stop the renewal; only the account setting or the app store does.

Your rights in the EU

For a plan bought in Germany since March 2022, a renewal cannot lock you in for another fixed term of more than a month if you cancel: after the first term the contract is terminable monthly. Babbel’s own 20-day guarantee is longer than the legal 14-day withdrawal right.

These apply in most EU countries on top of whatever the service’s own terms say. The detail varies by country, so treat this as the floor, not the full picture.

• 14 days to change your mind. For most contracts you sign online you have 14 days to withdraw without giving a reason. For a digital service you start using straight away, the seller can ask you to give up that right at checkout, which is what the tick-box you clicked past was for, or charge you for the part you used.
• Auto-renewal has to be clear. A service that renews automatically has to tell you so before you sign up, including how long each renewal lasts and what it costs. Some countries go further: in Germany, a contract signed since March 2022 can only renew indefinitely if you can then cancel monthly, and notice periods are capped at one month. France, Austria, Romania and Sweden require a separate reminder before a renewal.
• A cancel button, in Germany. If you signed up online with a company selling in Germany, its website has to carry a clearly labelled cancellation button since July 2022, and cancelling has to be as easy as signing up was. Across the EU, an equivalent withdrawal function for the 14-day right became mandatory on 19 June 2026.
• Keep the confirmation. Cancel through the account page or the official form rather than by replying to a no-reply address, screenshot the confirmation, and keep the email. If a charge lands after that date, the confirmation is what gets it reversed.
