How to cancel Kindle Unlimited
On amazon.de: Account & Lists › Your Memberships & Subscriptions › Kindle Unlimited › Cancel Kindle Unlimited membership. No notice period; it stays active to the next billing date and does not renew. Borrowed books return themselves at that point.
On the web
- Sign in on the Amazon site you subscribed on and open Account & Lists › Your Memberships & Subscriptions (or Manage your Kindle Unlimited membership).
- Choose Cancel Kindle Unlimited membership.
- Amazon offers to remind you later or keep the membership; choose to end it and confirm.
- The page shows the end date. You can read borrowed titles until then.
Before you cancel
- Notice period
- None. The membership stays active until the next billing date and then does not renew.
- Refunds
- No refund of the current month. A promotional period cancelled early runs to its end without charge.
- Worth knowing
- The 3-month free or 99-cent offers convert to the full price automatically. Cancel inside the offer and you keep it to the end.
- Borrowed books are returned when the membership ends; notes and highlights stay in your account. Books you bought are unaffected.
- Kindle Unlimited is separate from Prime Reading, which is part of Prime and has nothing to cancel.
Your rights in the EU
These apply in most EU countries on top of whatever the service’s own terms say. The detail varies by country, so treat this as the floor, not the full picture.
- 14 days to change your mind. For most contracts you sign online you have 14 days to withdraw without giving a reason. For a digital service you start using straight away, the seller can ask you to give up that right at checkout, which is what the tick-box you clicked past was for, or charge you for the part you used.
- Auto-renewal has to be clear. A service that renews automatically has to tell you so before you sign up, including how long each renewal lasts and what it costs. Some countries go further: in Germany, a contract signed since March 2022 can only renew indefinitely if you can then cancel monthly, and notice periods are capped at one month. France, Austria, Romania and Sweden require a separate reminder before a renewal.
- A cancel button, in Germany. If you signed up online with a company selling in Germany, its website has to carry a clearly labelled cancellation button since July 2022, and cancelling has to be as easy as signing up was. Across the EU, an equivalent withdrawal function for the 14-day right became mandatory on 19 June 2026.
- Keep the confirmation. Cancel through the account page or the official form rather than by replying to a no-reply address, screenshot the confirmation, and keep the email. If a charge lands after that date, the confirmation is what gets it reversed.

Do I lose the books I borrowed?
They are returned automatically at the end date, along with any you had downloaded. Highlights and notes are kept. Anything you bought stays in your library.
I only signed up for the free months. When do I cancel?
Any time before the end date shown under Your Memberships. Cancelling early keeps the free period running; it just stops the conversion to paid.
Is Prime Reading the same thing?
No. Prime Reading is a smaller catalogue included with Prime. Kindle Unlimited is a separate paid subscription, cancelled from Your Memberships & Subscriptions.
