How to cancel HBO Max
Sign in at hbomax.com/subscription and choose Cancel your subscription. No notice period: it ends at the end of the paid month. Billed by Apple, Google, Amazon or a TV provider? Cancel there; the HBO Max site only shows the button for direct subscriptions.
If HBO Max bills you directly
- Open hbomax.com/subscription in a browser and sign in.
- Choose Cancel your subscription (Dein Abonnement kündigen) and confirm.
- The page shows the end date. You keep watching in full until then, and the account stays for a later return.
If you pay through Apple, Google, Amazon or a TV provider
- Check the charge on your statement: the biller is where you cancel.
- Apple: Settings › your name › Subscriptions. Google Play: Payments & subscriptions › Subscriptions. Amazon: Your Memberships & Subscriptions or Prime Video Channels.
- Sky, Telekom, Vodafone or another bundle: their customer area, with their notice period.
Before you cancel
- Notice period
- None. Cancel before the next billing date; the subscription ends at the end of the paid month.
- Refunds
- No refund for the running month. A prepaid annual plan runs to the end of its year.
- Worth knowing
- Every plan is monthly by default, so there is no long contract to worry about, but the first price rise is already announced for January 2027.
- Bundles (with RTL+ in Germany, with telecom TV packages elsewhere) belong to the bundle seller and end with it.
- Downloads on the app stop working when the subscription ends.
Your rights in the EU
These apply in most EU countries on top of whatever the service’s own terms say. The detail varies by country, so treat this as the floor, not the full picture.
- 14 days to change your mind. For most contracts you sign online you have 14 days to withdraw without giving a reason. For a digital service you start using straight away, the seller can ask you to give up that right at checkout, which is what the tick-box you clicked past was for, or charge you for the part you used.
- Auto-renewal has to be clear. A service that renews automatically has to tell you so before you sign up, including how long each renewal lasts and what it costs. Some countries go further: in Germany, a contract signed since March 2022 can only renew indefinitely if you can then cancel monthly, and notice periods are capped at one month. France, Austria, Romania and Sweden require a separate reminder before a renewal.
- A cancel button, in Germany. If you signed up online with a company selling in Germany, its website has to carry a clearly labelled cancellation button since July 2022, and cancelling has to be as easy as signing up was. Across the EU, an equivalent withdrawal function for the 14-day right became mandatory on 19 June 2026.
- Keep the confirmation. Cancel through the account page or the official form rather than by replying to a no-reply address, screenshot the confirmation, and keep the email. If a charge lands after that date, the confirmation is what gets it reversed.

Why can’t I see a cancel button on hbomax.com?
The button appears only for subscriptions HBO Max bills itself. If Apple, Google, Amazon or a TV provider charges you, cancel through them.
Do I keep watching until the end of the month?
Yes. Cancelling stops the next charge; access continues to the end of the period already paid for.
I have HBO Max inside RTL+ Premium. How do I cancel?
