How to cancel YouTube Premium

Open youtube.com/paid_memberships, choose the membership, then Continue to cancel and confirm. You can pause for up to six months instead. Paid through Apple or Google Play? Cancel there.

On the web

Sign in and open youtube.com/paid_memberships (or profile picture › Purchases and memberships in the app).
Select the YouTube Premium membership, then Continue to cancel. If you would rather pause, the same screen offers it; a pause is one to six months.
Give a reason if asked, choose Next, then Yes, cancel.
Benefits continue until the end of the current billing period. Music and downloads made with Premium stop working after that.

If you subscribed on an iPhone or through Google Play

A membership started in the iOS app is billed by Apple: cancel in Settings › your name › Subscriptions › YouTube Premium.
A membership billed through Google Play: Play Store › profile › Payments & subscriptions › Subscriptions.
YouTube’s own memberships page will tell you which of these applies and link to it.

Before you cancel

Notice period: None. Cancel any time; benefits run to the end of the billing period.
Refunds: No refund for the rest of the period once billed. Cancelling a trial before it ends means no charge at all.
Worth knowing: A Family plan is cancelled by the family manager. Members cannot end it; they can only leave the family group.
YouTube Music Premium is included in YouTube Premium; cancelling Premium ends both. If you only want Music, downgrade rather than cancel.
Buying through the iOS app is often priced higher than on the web. When you resubscribe, do it in a browser.

Your rights in the EU

These apply in most EU countries on top of whatever the service’s own terms say. The detail varies by country, so treat this as the floor, not the full picture.

14 days to change your mind. For most contracts you sign online you have 14 days to withdraw without giving a reason. For a digital service you start using straight away, the seller can ask you to give up that right at checkout, which is what the tick-box you clicked past was for, or charge you for the part you used.
Auto-renewal has to be clear. A service that renews automatically has to tell you so before you sign up, including how long each renewal lasts and what it costs. Some countries go further: in Germany, a contract signed since March 2022 can only renew indefinitely if you can then cancel monthly, and notice periods are capped at one month. France, Austria, Romania and Sweden require a separate reminder before a renewal.

If you signed up online with a company selling in Germany, its website has to carry a clearly labelled cancellation button since July 2022, and cancelling has to be as easy as signing up was. Across the EU, an equivalent withdrawal function for the 14-day right became mandatory on 19 June 2026.
Keep the confirmation. Cancel through the account page or the official form rather than by replying to a no-reply address, screenshot the confirmation, and keep the email. If a charge lands after that date, the confirmation is what gets it reversed.

Can I pause YouTube Premium instead of cancelling?

Yes. On the paid memberships page you can pause for one to six months. Billing stops during the pause and resumes automatically at the end, so note the date.

Do I lose downloaded videos and music?

Downloads made with Premium are a Premium benefit and stop working when the period ends. Your playlists, likes and history are unaffected.

I cannot find a Cancel button on YouTube.

Then the membership is billed by Apple or Google Play. Open Subscriptions in your phone’s store settings and cancel it there; YouTube reflects it within a few minutes.
