How to cancel Swapfiets
In the Swapfiets app: I need help › I want to cancel my subscription, or use the web form. Notice is one month from the day you cancel; a Loyal 6- or 12-month contract does not end on its own, so give notice a month before its end date. Return the bike before the last day or billing continues.
In the app (iPhone or Android)
- Open the Swapfiets app and sign in, then go to I need help.
- Choose I want to cancel my subscription and follow the steps. There is also a web form linked from the help centre.
- You get a confirmation email with the end date and instructions for returning the bike.
- Book the return appointment in the app or by phone, and hand the bike in before the last day of the subscription.
Before you cancel
- Notice period
- One month from the day you give notice on a Flexible contract. On a Loyal contract (6 or 12 months), notice one month before the minimum term ends, or it continues month to month with the same one-month notice.
- Refunds
- No refund of the notice month. The 14-day withdrawal right applies to a contract signed online, until the bike is delivered and used.
- Worth knowing
- The subscription does not stop when the Loyal term ends; it keeps running until you cancel.
- If the bike is not returned by the last day, the subscription stays active and billing continues. Book the return early; slots fill up in student cities in summer.
- Damage or missing parts found at the return are charged separately; photograph the bike at hand-over.
- Moving to another Swapfiets city can be handled as a transfer instead of a cancellation.
Your rights in the EU
These apply in most EU countries on top of whatever the service’s own terms say. The detail varies by country, so treat this as the floor, not the full picture.
- 14 days to change your mind. For most contracts you sign online you have 14 days to withdraw without giving a reason. For a digital service you start using straight away, the seller can ask you to give up that right at checkout, which is what the tick-box you clicked past was for, or charge you for the part you used.
- Auto-renewal has to be clear. A service that renews automatically has to tell you so before you sign up, including how long each renewal lasts and what it costs. Some countries go further: in Germany, a contract signed since March 2022 can only renew indefinitely if you can then cancel monthly, and notice periods are capped at one month. France, Austria, Romania and Sweden require a separate reminder before a renewal.
- A cancel button, in Germany. If you signed up online with a company selling in Germany, its website has to carry a clearly labelled cancellation button since July 2022, and cancelling has to be as easy as signing up was. Across the EU, an equivalent withdrawal function for the 14-day right became mandatory on 19 June 2026.
- Keep the confirmation. Cancel through the account page or the official form rather than by replying to a no-reply address, screenshot the confirmation, and keep the email. If a charge lands after that date, the confirmation is what gets it reversed.

Questions
When does Swapfiets stop charging me?
One month after the day you cancel, provided the bike is returned by then. Return late and the subscription, and the charge, continue.
Can I cancel a Loyal contract early?
You can give notice any time, but it takes effect at the end of the 6- or 12-month term at the earliest, with one month’s notice before that date.
How do I return the bike?
Book a drop-off or pick-up appointment in the app or by phone after cancelling; the confirmation email explains the options for your city.
